WORK PACKAGES
Sub-project 1: Collection and preparation of documents for digitization/documentation
In the context of Sub-project 1, the items were collected and recorded, their status was determined in terms of their suitability for digitization and availability to the specialist and wider public, and the relevant maintenance, final selection and classification was carried out.
The preservation of the valuable information contained in the evidence, namely: pictures, photographs, works of art, books, newspapers, drawings, maps, posters, manuscripts, film works, etc., is the most important factor for the successful completion of the project as some of the aforementioned items were destroyed by the ravages of time or by some event and others were corrupted.
Sub-project 2: Digitization, documentation and highlighting of the historical-cultural inventory of HELEXPO - TIF
In the context of Sub-Project 2 of the Action, the historical-cultural stock of HELEXPO - TIF was digitized, documented and highlighted.
Sub-project 3: Publicity Actions
During the implementation of Sub-Project 3, all the required awareness raising and information actions were carried out for all those involved.
The purpose of the actions is the publicity and diffusion of the benefits of the Act and the promotion of its results to the direct and indirect recipients of the project as well as to the general public.
In the context of Work Package 1.1, the items were collected and recorded, their status was established in terms of their suitability for digitization and availability to the specialist and wider public.
An implementation study was drawn up, which included the operational, functional and technical requirements of the Act, the method of recording the performance indicators of the entire solution and the digital services provided, the action plan for the security of the system under development, the interoperability plan, the methodology and the planning of digitization and documentation, the methodology, the program and the training material as well as the risk management plan.
The documentation software supports and guides the application of linked open data technologies for the cultural content digitized and documented in the first work package. It also supports the automatic extraction of selected metadata for the inclusion of content in Euroepana's European cultural repository, ECB and Wikipedia, in an automated way. The digital content has been included in the single list of digital cultural resources through its deposit in the infrastructure of the National Documentation Center (EKT). Through the multi-channel website, cultural material and cultural activities are displayed, interested parties are informed about the actions of HELEXPO TIF and services are provided that will facilitate its operation. In addition, the hub has been linked to social media.
Three (3) multi-channel online 3D browsing applications were developed, one for each time period and for all thematic sections (International Exhibition/Industry Exhibitions, Song Festival, Film Festival), which display the cultural material online. The view of the material is controlled by a material management system with possibilities to add / remove material, change position, etc.
In the context of the development of each application, 3D digitizations of the spaces (exhibition spaces/booths, cinema halls, festival venues, etc.) were used, which were geospatially linked with the documentation software and the information it contains. Any changes made to the documentation software automatically update the displayed tour material.
The visitor can browse the spaces by extracting specific information from the database of the repository through web services. The application refers to visitors who want to learn about the history of TIF, the branch exhibitions, the song festival, the film festival (school students, parents with their children, researchers, etc.), as well as to people with mobility difficulties (people disabled, elderly, etc.) that are difficult to visit the natural area.
It refers to the support services of the operation of the system and the users under real operating conditions, ensuring the required availability for a period of three months. Before the start of the pilot operation, all online applications were transferred to G-Cloud and the final check of the technical specifications for interoperability and open data was carried out and the data and digital files were uploaded to the ECB.
In the framework of Work Package 1.2, the necessary maintenance procedures were implemented, before the digitization of some prototypes.
During the implementation of WP 2.2, recording, digitization, indexing, depositing and disposal of digital cultural resources took place. The documentation was implemented on the basis of the documentation scheme developed in the implementation study and made use of open metadata which ensures free and unrestricted access to the material, which is possible under copyright, for non-profit use.
Three (3) virtual tour sub-applications were created, one for each historical period of the Thessaloniki International Fair, utilizing the 3D models and geospatial information passed through the documentation. The systems are fully integrated with the web portal to ensure full and smooth communication and cooperation with it and the user can enjoy the cultural material through the advanced display technologies, using a modern and properly configured web browser . This Application also implements the Information Service of historical / cultural multimedia content. In particular, it gives the user the possibility of a virtual tour of places of interest of exhibitions and festivals using an interactive map. The user has the possibility to use filters (by topic or historical period) to limit the information he receives at will. In addition, the application has an information search system that provides results based on the map. The "Virtual Tour Application" includes all the specialized and modern technologies of visualization and representation, spaces, objects and other evidence.
Supply and installation of equipment: 3 servers, 5 interactive info-kiosks, 100 mobile audio-visual tour devices, digitization equipment and content display equipment. Within the framework of the Work Package, training was carried out for users (administrators, documenters, digitizers, ordinary users, technicians, etc.)
